"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.”
― John Muir
We recently had an open house to celebrate the move into our new shop and office space. While the finishing touches are still be made in the shop area, it was a good time to stop and be grateful and happy about the new resources we are using. If you were unable to make our Open House, please contact us! We would love to show you around!

Sterling Heritage Farms Receives “Outstanding Operational Achievement” Award
Brighton, IL – Sterling Heritage Farms was presented the “Outstanding Operational Achievement” Award by FamilyFarms Group in recognition of their active efforts in continual improvement of their business skills. The award, presented in Phoenix, AZ on January 15th, recognizes a farming operation’s commitment to training, implementation, and excellence in key areas.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, farm families must be willing to envision the future of crop production,” said Allen Lash, FamilyFarms Group CEO. He continued, “Those who cannot envision and adapt will be left behind. Sterling Heritage Farms exemplifies the willingness to invest now in training and implementation of best business skills which will help them compete successfully now and in the future.”
Sterling Heritage Farms personnel, led by owners Jon and Heather Oden, have successfully completed training and implementation in the areas of crisis management, communication, employee handbooks, control systems, marketing and business development planning, landowner relations and more. In addition, the Odens actively participate in their community through leadership, donations, and involvement.
Every so often it is necessary to reflect. The following section is devoted to such reflection and timely thoughts from Jon and Heather.
It is sunrise and I am sitting in our family room, looking out the window as rain clouds slowly move their way northward across my east window. Jon is deep in slumber, trying to catch up from multiple midnight to 3 a.m. mornings of harvesting and spraying. The house is quiet right now....a seldom witnessed feat; and I am brimming with gratitude:
gratitude for a husband with a strong work ethic and an able body
gratitude for sleeping, healthy children who are old enough to help on the farm this summer
gratitude for the opportunity to teach our children about hard work and fresh air and growth and satisfaction in seeing a job through until it is well-done
gratitude for rain.....precious rain
gratitude for harvest and all it provides
gratitude for landowners who partner with us
gratitude for the fantastic team of guys that we are blessed to work with with every day who help make this farming operation successful and a great place to be
gratitude for the construction of our new shop and office that will enhance our ability to carry out business
gratitude for the quiet in my home, a pregnant silence, holding promise and potential of great things for a new day
gratitude for God's love and the new opportunities and adventures He has planted in this new day, waiting to be discovered.
Well, I am off to discover the adventure! I leave you with our prayer for this year:
“May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us -- yes, establish the work of our hands.” (Ps 90:17).
Until next time,
Jon and Heather Oden
